Declaration of intention to become a citizen of the United States, denouncing Schmidt's allegiance to the King of Wertenburgh, as signed by Schmidt on May 22, 1857. The declaration was sworn before G.W. Mills, clerk of the Circuit Court of Barry County (Mich.) in Hastings on May 29, 1857. The printed naturalization form has additional information added in handwriting and is stamped with the Circuit Court seal.
